On April 7, Yuanhai Mining Group and the Institute of Resource Utilization and Rare Earth Development of the Guangdong Academy of Sciences successfully held a strategic cooperation signing ceremony, marking the establishment of a deep, long-term strategic partnership between the Group—whose operations involve challenging mineral-processing issues—and the Academy. Together, they will dedicate themselves to overcoming key technical bottlenecks in the industry and driving technological advancement and upgrading across the sector.

Showcasing cutting-edge technologies from research institutes and precisely aligning them with industry needs.

At the signing ceremony, Director Meng Qingbo of the Laboratory at the Institute of Resource Utilization and Rare-Earth Development of the Guangdong Academy of Sciences provided a detailed overview of the Academy’s cutting-edge technological initiatives and significant achievements in the rare-earth sector.

The event highlighted a series of innovative achievements, including high-performance rare-earth hydrogen-storage materials and solid-state hydrogen-storage technologies, key technologies for the green and efficient separation of ion-adsorption-type rare earths in southern China, and intensive multi-component beneficiation technologies for complex hard-rock rare-earth deposits at high altitudes. In addition, in-depth exchanges were held on the research, development, and application of specialized mineral-processing equipment and high-efficiency flotation reagents. Professor Liang Dongyun, an expert in process mineralogy, explained from the perspective of fundamental mineralogical research the critical role that process-mineralogy studies play in optimizing beneficiation flows and enhancing resource recovery rates. These cutting-edge technologies and specialized capabilities are precisely aligned with the core technological needs faced by Yuanhai Mining Group in its current development and future planning.

Senior management of the group attended collectively to jointly map out a strategy for overcoming technical challenges.

Yuanhai Mining Group attaches great importance to this collaboration, with the entire senior management team in attendance. Mr. Wei Guanghai, Chairman of the Group, and Mr. Wei Guangguang, Vice Chairman, were joined by Senior Advisors Mr. Li Changzhen and Mr. Jiang Lijie, as well as Mr. He Xian’an, Deputy General Manager of the Group and General Manager of Nanke Heavy Industry Industry, and Mr. Zhu Huaizhu, Deputy Chief Engineer of the Group and Chief Engineer of Nanke Heavy Industry—key members of the leadership team—who collectively participated in the meeting and engaged in constructive discussions with experts from the Academy of Sciences.

Focusing on critical industry challenges and jointly building a systemic collaboration framework.

Both parties unanimously agree that this strategic collaboration represents a model of deep integration among industry, academia, and research. Under the terms of the agreement, the two sides will initially focus on the “bottleneck” challenges faced by Yuanhai Mining Group in specific production processes involving complex, difficult-to-process ores—particularly the efficient separation of high-altitude hard-rock-type rare earths from ion-absorption-type rare earths. To address these challenges, they will jointly establish a technology task force that integrates the Guangdong Academy of Sciences’ world-class R&D capabilities with Yuanhai Mining’s industrial application platform, thereby conducting systematic collaborative research spanning from fundamental studies in “process mineralogy” to applied development in “beneficiation technologies and reagents.” The overarching goal is to leverage technological innovation to achieve the efficient, clean, and intensive utilization of rare earth resources, enhance overall resource recovery rates, reduce the environmental footprint, jointly develop relevant technical standards, and strengthen the enterprises’ core competitiveness and industry leadership.

Injecting momentum into high-quality development and jointly undertaking national strategic missions

This collaboration not only injects robust technological momentum into the high-quality development of Yuanhai Mining Group, but also represents a significant practical application of the Guangdong Academy of Sciences’ scientific and technological achievements in serving industry and meeting national strategic needs. Both parties stated that they will take this signing as a new starting point to continuously broaden and deepen their cooperation, working together to safeguard the security of China’s strategic mineral resources and promote the green and sustainable development of the rare-earth industry.
