Magnetic Separation Ore-Processing Technology

Magnetic separation exploits the magnetic property differences among various ores and materials to achieve final mineral sorting under the combined action of magnetic forces and other mechanical forces. Leveraging years of ore-dressing experience, Nanke Heavy Industry has continuously conducted research and innovation based on conventional magnetic separation processes, independently developing both dry and wet magnetic separation equipment. These innovations have not only increased magnetic field strength and penetration depth but also boosted the number of magnetic pole reversals, thereby improving mineral separation efficiency by 30%. As a result, a comprehensive magnetic separation process system has now been established.

(2) Magnetic Separation Process Flow for Strongly Magnetic Minerals
• Process Overview
After the slurry enters the magnetic separator, the magnetic mineral particles experience a magnetic force that exceeds the opposing mechanical force, causing them to adhere to the drum and be conveyed to the discharge outlet for removal.
• Scope of Application
magnetite, titanomagnetite, and pyrrhotite, among others;

(3) Magnetic Separation Process Flow for Weakly Magnetic Minerals
• Process Overview
After the slurry enters the magnetic separator, the magnetic force acting on the magnetic mineral particles is less than the opposing mechanical force, causing these particles to remain within the separator and thereby achieving separation of the mineral particles.
• Scope of Application
Hematite, specular hematite, siderite, limonite, manganese ore, and wolframite, among others;

(4) Magnetic Separation Process Flow for Non-Magnetic Minerals
• Process Overview
The magnetic separation process for non-magnetic minerals primarily employs diamagnetic separation, in which non-magnetic mineral particles experience only a weak magnetic field and thus remain in the slurry for subsequent discharge.
• Scope of Application
Scheelite, quartz, feldspar, galena, gold, and fluorite, among others.

Magnetic Separation Case —Indonesia 2,000 t/d Magnetite Ore Beneficiation Plant Project

Ore properties: Following characterization of the raw ore samples, the Southern University of Science and Technology Ore-Processing Laboratory determined that the principal metallic minerals in the ore are titanomagnetite and ilmenite, with minor amounts of hematite, goethite, and secondary magnetite. The gangue minerals are predominantly titanium-bearing augite and plagioclase.

Project Issues: The South China University of Technology’s mineral processing laboratory has found that the content and particle size of titanomagnetite vary significantly with ore grade: as the grade decreases from rich to poor, the titanomagnetite content declines, its particle size becomes finer—typically ranging from 0.7 to 1.2 mm—and it predominantly occurs in granular, tabular, and irregular forms.

Process flow: Following beneficiation tests on the project’s iron ore, the Southern University of Science and Technology Ore-Processing Laboratory determined, based on the ore’s characteristics, to adopt a three-stage open-circuit crushing process followed by a magnetic separation flow sheet consisting of one roughing, one cleaning, and one scavenging stage. After primary crushing and grinding, the ground product is returned to the classifier to form a primary closed circuit; the coarse middlings are recirculated within the closed circuit, while the fine fraction is returned to the original operation. Subsequently, magnetic separators are used for one roughing, one cleaning, and one scavenging magnetic separation operations, ultimately yielding qualified iron concentrate.

Process indicators: Raw ore grade: 35.6%; Concentrate grade: 68%; Actual recovery rate: 87.32%
